It's based on <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WebRTC">WebRTC</a>, a free and open-source project for web browsers.
It's the reason why we encourage developers to use the <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://docs.joinpeertube.org/contribute/plugins">PeerTube plugin API</a> to create their own monetization system.

PeerTube does not impose any remuneration model. This is the choice we have made, and others (like DTube) have made other choices. So it's up to you to see what suits you.
PeerTube is a free software, not a secret formula that belongs to Google (in the case of Youtube) or to Vivendi/Bolloré (Dailymotion). This free/libre license guarantees our fundamental freedoms as users.
